Born in Nigeria, West Africa, but raised in Queens, New York City, Chet Anekwe calls New York City/New Jersey and Los Angeles home. He has performed in numerous stage productions in New York City. He received rave reviews for his performances as "Mark Antony" in Julius Caesar set in Africa, "Paul Bratter" in Barefoot In The Park, "Okonkwo" in Our Husband has gone mad again and "Nat Turner" in Nat Turner. Anekwe's outstanding reviews and response for his portrayal of Joseph Cinque in Chap Am So (The Amistad Story) lead to an NYC Audelco nomination for best actor in 1997. Anekwe guest-starred on the episode, "Tyler Returns", of the television show.
